The Chelsea morning headlines as Blues lead Coutinho transfer race, what could happen to Mount

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Thursday, 19th March.

Premier League meeting

Premier League clubs are meeting today to discuss plans for the rest of the season after the coronavirus outbreak saw all games in England postponed until 4 April.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi both tested positive for COVID-19 last week, which led to the decision to suspend all matches in the top flight temporarily.

Chelsea's player of the season so far

And now the next phase is upon us.

Officials from all 20 clubs will speak via conference call to discuss whether it will be safe to resume matches on the planned date, how to fit all fixtures in before UEFA's suggested cut-off point of 30 June, and whether games should be played behind closed doors.

Other matters such as the financial impact of the virus pandemic will be spoken about, as clubs come to terms with what is an unprecedented period in the history of the sport.

Further talks are planned next week, but much will depend on the guidance based on government advice.

Blues leading Coutinho transfer race

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazil international is currently on loan at Bayern Munich but his future is uncertain, with reports stating that the Bundesliga side are unlikely to trigger his release clause at the end of the season.

To turn this move into a permanent one, Bayern would have to pay €110million (£103.4million).

Could Barcelona's asking price block a transfer to Germany for Coutinho and result in him returning to the Premier League?

Well, according to Spanish newspaper AS - via the Mirror - the Blues are leading the race to sign the ex-Liverpool attacking midfielder.

In addition, the report states that Frank Lampard has already held discussions with Coutinho in the hope of persuading him to make the move to west London.

David Luiz reveals messages from Chelsea staff

David Luiz has revealed how difficult it was to deal with making the move from Chelsea to Arsenal last summer.

The Brazilian joined the Gunners for £8million deal and has spoken about the impact leaving the non-playing staff at Stamford Bridge had on him early on.

"Every text message I was receiving, people were saying: 'Come back, come back, come back, come back, we are here for you’ he told OTRO.

"I give you the example of a gentleman there who is 75 years old. He was taking breakfast with me at the time when he had the opportunity.

"He was texting me: ‘I am still waiting for you here to take the breakfast again’.

"This kind of thing was so difficult for me, because I am someone that sees the heart as the most important thing."

Willian reveals punishment

Willian has revealed that Chelsea will fine any players who break their period of self-isolation without a good reason.

The Blues squad are currently following club protocol to remain in self-isolation until they are told otherwise, after all Premier League matches were suspended amid the coronavirus outbreak.

However, midfielder Mason Mount was caught ignoring guidelines after being spotted playing football with West Ham's Declan Rice on Sunday and Willian has explained his teammate is facing a fine after the club made it clear to the squad that they must follow the strict rules.

"The instructions they passed on to us were that no one should leave the house,” Willian told Esporte Interativo. "Unless there’s something you need to buy, at the market or at the pharmacy.

"But we shouldn’t leave the house, not to go to any other type of place.

"And if the club knew something that the players would be leaving, they would fine us. That’s what they said to us."
