There may be no Chelsea matches on the horizon at the moment, but there is still plenty of news off the pitch relating to the Blues.
The latest Chelsea news on Sunday evening sees players airing their opinions on a range of subjects, as we outline below.
Rudiger’s strong message
A pair of doctors who took to French television to suggest Africa be used as a study environment for fighting coronavirus have received widespread condemnation, with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger the latest player to speak out.
Rudiger took to Twitter to denounce the words of the doctors, accusing them of treating Africa as a testing ground akin to scientific experiments on animals.
“This is racism at its highest level and a terrible statement against all the black-skinned,” said Rudiger. “How was this even allowed to be broadcast on French TV?”
Former Chelsea strikers Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba are among those to issue similar judgements.
Willian’s description of N'Golo Kante
Attacking midfielder Willian took to Instagram to invite fans to send in their questions, with one being to describe team-mate N’Golo Kante in a single word.
While a powerhouse midfielder who is capable of dominating proceedings on the pitch, in person he is known as something of the opposite, a man happy to let others have the limelight even if he is the chief enabler.
Willian’s response of “shy” was perhaps the perfect description then, but it doesn’t detract from how important he is when fully fit and in form.
Chelsea monitor young defender
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Stoke City and Ireland Under-21 defender Nathan Collins.
The 6ft 5in centre half is expected to soon become hot property in the transfer market, despite making just three Sky Bet Championship starts so far this season.
Chelsea are not the only club interested though, with Premier League rivals Arsenal also understood to have sent scouts to watch the defender last month before football was paused owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
An imminent offer is unlikely, given the current situation, but football.london understands that he will continue to be monitored.
Collins, who turns 19 later this month, is under contract until 2024 and agreed a new deal last summer.
On top of his three starts, the teenager has made six appearances off the substitutes bench and was called into a provisional senior Ireland squad at the beginning of the season.
