The cheapest place in the UK to get married has been revealed

Anyone who's experienced the stress of organising a wedding will know that it can be an expensive business.

From booking a venue to buying the all important dress, there are several costs to consider - and they mount up quicker than you might expect.

However, you can cut costs by choosing where you get hitched wisely, as some areas of the UK have a significantly lower total average bill than others.

The location you get married in will have a big impact on the final cost (PA)

Working alongside its sister brand You & Your Wedding, wedding planning site Hitched surveyed over 2,000 couples to find out the average cost of a big day in Britain.

Unsurprisingly London came top, with a total average cost of £39,763 - up to £11,000 more than other areas of the UK.

Cheapest on the list was the South West of England, where the average wedding cost came up at just under £28,000.

Here's the full list:

  • London - £39, 763
  • Northern Ireland - £33,162
  • Scotland - £31,466
  • North East & Cumbria - £31,217
  • South East - £33,116
  • West Midlands - £30,029
  • Yorkshire & The Humber - £29,784
  • East Midlands - £29,242
  • Wales - £29,097
  • East of England - £28,814
  • North West - £28,166
  • South West - £27,958

Luckily the North West faired pretty well, coming out second cheapest with an average of just £208 more than the South West.

So if you're planning a wedding, you might want to consider staying in and around Greater Manchester, or at least in the North West.

If not, you could hop on a train down to the South West - though you might find the train fare more expensive than the difference saved.
