Kavos is the most affordable destination for couples this autumn, according to new data released today.
The resort in Corfu, Greece, is ranked as the cheapest package holiday destination for two adults, according to data compiled by TravelSupermarket. According to the platform, a holiday to Kavos costs just £39.29 a night on average in September and October.
The Greek resort is perhaps best remembered as the subject of Channel 4 documentary What Happens in Kavos.
Four other resorts in Europe also offer holidays for less than £50 a night in September and October, according to the travel platform.
Following Kavos as the best-value break for couples is Lloret de Mar on Spain’s Costa Brava (£42.80); Sidari in Corfu (£43.78); Varna in Bulgaria (£48.71); and Malia in Greece (£49.86).
September and October are ideal months for a European beach holiday, says Emma Grimster from TravelSupermarket – the crowds have thinned after the school summer holidays and the climate remains pleasant across much of southern Europe.
“Resorts in Corfu appear twice in our top 10 with holidays to the island offering great value from just £207 per person for a package deal including flights and accommodation,” she adds.
“However, when thinking about the cost of living once in resort, it is the Bulgarian resorts of Varna and Sunny Beach that could offer the best overall value for money, with the cost of eating out etc much cheaper than in other Eurozone countries.”
The Costa Brava’s Lloret de Mar was also ranked fastest-growing beach destination for couples, with TravelSupermarket recording a 274 per cent spike in searches year on year. It was followed by Split in Croatia and Miami, Florida’s swaggering beach resort.
However, when it comes to the most popular beach break destinations for couples, the Spanish islands and resorts remain on top, with Tenerife, Majorca and Benidorm the clear winners. Three Turkish resorts – Antalya, Marmaris and Bodrum – also appear in TravelSupermarket's top 20. With recent falls in the Turkish lira, the destination has become much more attractive to British holidaymakers.
