The Chase viewers slam 'patronising' Bradley Walsh over comment to young player

The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh has been slammed by outraged viewers for his 'patronising' comments to a young contestant.

Four new players were welcomed to the show in a bid to take on the Chaser and win a cash prize.

One of the contestants was 19-year-old Ben, a student in philosophy, politics and economics.

Asked what he wanted to do after studying, he said: "I still have absolutely no idea to be honest."

He then told Bradley that he wanted to win some money to get tickets to the semi-finals of the Euro 2020 at Wembley.

Ben managed to build up an impressive £4,000 in the cash builder before taking on Anne Hegerty in the Chase.

But viewers complained that Bradley was being 'patronising' after Ben's cash builder.

The host said: "Very good, for a 19-year-old, four grand is excellent."

After taking on Anne, Bradley exclaimed: "For 19 with those questions as well, that was terrific."

He added: "Well played for the 19 year old, terrific."

One viewer commented: "How patronising is Bradley to young players? Does my head in #TheChase."

While another wrote: "Four grand is excellent "for a 19 year old"? How patronising. It's not that good regardless of age #thechase".

A third added: "We get it.. He's 19 #TheChase."

Ben was the only player who managed to make it through to the final chase to take on Anne.

But The Governess caught him with just over a minute to spare, and he went home empty handed.

The Chase continues weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
