ITV quiz show The Chase has come under fire from viewers after featuring a question on The Prodigy hours after front man Keith Flint died.
Flint was found dead at his Essex home on Monday morning. He was 49.
The Chase, which is pre-recorded, later aired a question on the number of members in the band, leaving viewers fuming.
Host Bradley Walsh asked one contestant: “Which of these chart acts has the fewest members?”
The options were Pretenders, The Proclaimers and The Prodigy.
Many noted the “bad timing” and branded the decision to air the episode “awful”.
One viewer tweeted: “Did the Chase really just show a question about fewest band members with The Prodigy as an answer on the day Keith Flint died? Bad taste #thechase #Prodigy #KeithFlint #Firestarter.”
Another posted: “I know it's recorded but that question with the Prodigy as an answer is very bad timing.”
A third wrote: “For real The Chase just had the question ‘Which band has the fewest members?’ and one of the possible answers was The Prodigy like BRO TOO F****** SOON.”
An ITV spokesperson said: “The Chase is pre-recorded (months) in advance and we do always make best endeavours to ensure our scheduling and programme content is not insensitive in light of news events when episodes are due to air. We apologise this was not spotted.”
Flint’s bandmate Liam Howlett said he had been left “shell shocked” and “heartbroken” after learning his “brother” had taken his own life.
The band, who had been booked to play Glastonbury Festival for the fourth time in June, also posted a tribute in the wake of the news.
Stars including Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers hailed Flint a “true icon” and a “great man”.
Gail Porter, who dated Flint between 1999 and 2000, simply posted: “Heartbroken.”
The Chase is on ITV, weekdays at 5pm
