The pensioner was first to play in tonight's show as he teamed up with other contestants Sarah, Bianca and David as they went up against chaser Darragh Ennis.
Derek teaches dancing a couple of times a week and hopes to use any winnings to decorate his home.
He said "I'll get my coat now" as he only answered two questions correctly in cash builder round, but took a low offer of £1,000 and made it back to the team adding some money to the prize pot.
Pharmacist Sarah played next for a middle offer of £5,000 which she made look easy as she beat the chaser and made her way back to join Derek in the final.
Bianca was third to go up against the chaser.
The cabin crew worker hoped to win money to go on holiday with her boyfriend as she took the lowest offer of £1,000.
Darragh said to her that it was absolutely the right decision.
She made it back to the bench, making the prize pot a little bit richer.
Final to play was David, a restaurant manager from Leeds, who will use any money on his business.
He took the middle offer of £7,000 and returned to the team meaning that all players were in the final hoping to win a total of £14,000 between them.
They had a four question advantage on the chaser since they all made it to the last round, and answered an additional 16 questions correctly meaning that Darragh had to face 20 questions in total.
With five successful pushbacks, the team were victorious and all headed home with £3,500 in each of their pockets.
They all cheered and hugged as they beat the chaser.
