The Chase star apologises to ITV after disastrous performance

The Chase certainly gets people talking, and so tonight was no different.

It was business as usual on ITV as the popular quiz show returned to screens.

And while it's usually the contestants who are left with their tail between their legs when it doesn't quite go to plan, this time it was the chaser himself.

Mark "The Beast" Labbett didn't achieve his usual standard and ended up apologising for his mistakes.

It all started with Jon who managed to take an impressive £36,000 back to the team for the final round.

NHS nurse Pamela then went head-to-head with The Beast and managed to take back £8,000.

Things took a slight turn when final contestant Susan decided to play it safe and played for minus £8,000 - much to Chase fans disappointment.

But in the end, the team played for £36,000 and pulled out all the stops.

Mark then failed to beat the trio, getting 11 questions wrong, and leaving the team to pocket £12,000 each.

Taking to Twitter after the show aired, Mark tweeted his apology: "No excuses, I played awful.

"My focus was clearly off, cannot explain why I missed three very gettable ones.

"Sorry ITV! #thechase."

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
