The Chase star Anne Hegerty almost sacked after sending offensive tweet

Anne Hegerty has revealed she was almost sacked from The Chase after posting an offensive tweet.

Anne, known as The Governess, was defending her I'm a Celeb campmate Emily Atack on social media, when she came under fire from ITV bosses.

Speaking about the incident on Lorraine, Anne said: "I have been known to get into trouble for that.

"I mean I tweeted a tweet last month, it got 25,000 likes before ITV ordered me to take it down and threatened me with suspension.

"But yeah okay fine, I took it down.

"Sometimes you don’t always know what’s appropriate or what people will find appropriate or not appropriate.

"One is not actually trying to upset the source of one’s bread and butter."

Anne, who has been praised for being so open about her autism , took exception to a tweet made by Steve Burrows - reports Plymouth Live.

He had retweeted a post by Emily Atack which stated she was thrilled to be playing Debbie Harry in a new season of Sky Arts show Urban Myths.

Steve's retweet was accompanied by the comment 'Sorry, you're just not pretty enough.'

Anne took exception to this and replied saying: 'What a sad c*** you are, Steve."
