The Chase's Paul Sinha pays tribute to contestant who died after filming

The Chase's Paul Sinha has paid tribute to a contestant who tragically died before his episode debuted.

Contestant Pete Green, 72, died in a house fire before his episode made it to air and Chase Paul took to social media to pay tribute to him.

Following the episode on ITV, Paul wrote: "Saddened to hear that Pete from today's Chase has since passed away in horrible circumstances.

"A true gentleman, a warm, engaging and thoroughly entertaining opponent."

His son Ben took to the comment section to recall how much of a good time his father had filming the episode.

"Dad was so excited about the episode. He talked about it daily up to the filming and then every week after," he wrote.

"He had an amazing time and described the crew as the most wonderful warm people and yourself & Bradley as amazing characters he would have liked to have had a beer with! TY."

Pete passed away in the fire on June 27 2021 in his house in Wymondham, Norfolk.

His episode of the competition show saw him win £3,000 in his cash builder.

Pete took a minus offer of £5,000 in the game against Chaser Paul and even made it back to the final chase.

However, Pete and contestant Jessica weren't victorious in the final chase with a second left on the timer.

Following the contestant's tragic death, his family released a heartwrenching tribute.

They said: "You touched so many lives and leave us all with the fondest memories, which will carry us through the tough times ahead.

"A much-loved character across Wymondham, re-enactment and steampunk communities to name but a few. Father of four, grandfather to eight, and companion to Kiki the Jack Russell. You will be sorely missed."

Pete was elected onto his local Town Council on behalf of a political party of his own founding in 2019 and was even the town crier.

At the time of the incident, police released a statement to Eastern Daily Press saying: "Emergency services attended an address in Damgate Street at approximately 3am, after officers discovered the fire.

"A man, the only occupant of the house, was discovered inside the property; however, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage."
