The Chase's Paul Sinha forced to give up doing pantomimes due to Parkinson's disease

The Chase's Paul Sinha was forced to give up his pantomime career due to his battle with Parkinson's disease.

The 51-year-old - aka The Sinnerman - opened up about how his battle with Parkinson's limited his "physical fitness", meaning he could no longer take part.

He took part as Abanazar in the York Opera House's production of Aladdin and confessed it had been "the most enjoyable month" of his life.

Paul explained to host Clive Anderson on the My Seven Wonders podcast : "This is the York Opera House in York where I spent the most intriguing month of my life being Abanazar in the York Opera House’s production of Aladdin in 2016.

The Sinnerman was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2019 (ITV)

"So it’s not comedy, and it’s not high art, it’s the experience of being the worst member of the cast."

Paul revealed he has Parkinson's disease back in 2009 in a blog post.

"On the evening of Thursday, May 30th [2019], an experienced consultant neurologist calmly informed me that I had Parkinson’s disease," he wrote.

"It was a devastating denouement to a medical odyssey that began in September 2017 with a sudden-onset, frozen right shoulder, and took in an unexpected diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, a lifestyle transformation that enabled me to lose two stone, and a shoulder operation in January this year."

"Nonetheless my reaction was not one of shock. I spent May this year in New Zealand simultaneously having the comedy month of my life, and worrying about why a right-sided limp was now getting worse."

He continued: "Behind the facade of the cheerful, late-night comedy festival drunk was a man deeply scared about facing the truth when back in the UK."

The Chaser had no previous experience in acting or pantomimes but fell in love with it immediately.

He revealed his diagnosis on his blog (ITV)

He added during the podcast: "It was a very humbling thing to go through. The Chasers often get offered panto work because of the sort of villainy of the characters we play on the show.

"And I had no acting experience whatsoever, and whatever a triple threat is, I’m the negative."
