The Chase's Mark 'The Beast' Labbett found out about his diabetes after nurse saw his lower legs

The Chase star Mark 'The Beast' Labbett revealed an eagle-eyed nurse was the one who first pointed out he could be diabetic.

Mark was diagnosed with diabetes in 2017, with the star saying the diagnosis was the reason for his lifestyle change.

The 55-year-old explained how, prior to the nurse warning him he could have the condition, he never had a 'diabetic episode'.

A diabetic episode - also known as diabetic hypoglycaemia - happens when a diabetic person doesn't have enough glucose in their blood.

"I've got skin that doesn't heal properly in my lower legs," Mark explained to Express.co.uk.

"A nurse looked at me and she asked, 'Are you sure you're not diabetic?' They took a test and she said, 'Yes, you're diabetic.'"

The 6ft6 star had undergone a dramatic transformation in recent months and completely revamped his diet and exercise habits.

Mark, who tipped the scales at 29 stone when he was his heaviest, recently weighed in at 19 stone.

Speaking to The Sun about his transformation in March, Mark said: "This is the lightest I've been in 25 years. I'm now under 20 stone, and I am really feeling the difference, as well as seeing it.

The television star added: “My knees really feel the difference. I will never be athletic again but I just move so much better for not carrying that extra weight.”

Not only did he cut down to two meals per day, but he also made sure to lower his sugar intake.

Mark also revealed that he faced a wake-up call when he battled coronavirus last year.

He had 'uncontrollable spells' of fever and the virus left him without an appetite, triggering his lockdown weight loss.

The star also had no sense of smell, a temperature and was exhausted throughout.

Back in February, Mark shared a snap of his weight loss with fans on Instagram.

He took a mirror selfie to show how loose his old trousers had become and fans flooded him with kind comments.

"Very proud of my progress since following my @mfgoalgettersuk plan," he wrote and tagged a meal plan brand.
