The Chase's Mark 'The Beast' Labbett 'fears pay cut as new chaser takes screen time'

Mark 'The Beast' Labbett has reportedly complained about the arrival of a new chaser to the popular ITV quiz show, The Chase.

The show's host, Bradley Walsh, has confirmed that a new chaser would be joining the team that includes Mark, Jenny Ryan, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Shaun Wallace.

Mark has not taken the news too well though, and has bemoaned that his diminishing screen time will mean less money for him.

He also took aim at TV bosses who have 'overlooked' him for work as he claims that he is the 'wrong demographic' for what is wanted on shows.

The Beast said: "I’m gutted about it, to be honest. We only get paid for when we work so a new chaser means less work.

“There will be a point where I can’t afford to do it any more. I’ll have to go back to teaching.

“Last year we only filmed half as Bradley Walsh was on Doctor Who and if I didn’t have other work it would be really tough."

Mark has set his sights high though when it comes to moving from quiz nerd to being a show host himself.

He has plans to take over from Jeremy Paxman on University Challenge, saying that this would be his "dream."

Until then though, he is finding it tough to break into that realm as he feels that the scene is already too crowded.

The Chase's Mark Labbett has said his opportunities have been limited (Liverpool ECHO)

Mark continued: "I’ve got a slight disadvantage because TV has too many white middle-aged quiz presenters.

“I haven’t had as many offers as Anne Hegerty and we have the same agent.

“My dream would be to host University Challenge.”
