The Chase's Irish chaser Darragh Ennis hits back at claims he has been sacked

The Chase's newest quizmaster was forced to deny he had been sacked earlier this week, after fans speculated about his absence from the day's episode of the popular quiz show.

Chaser Darragh Ennis tweeted on Wednesday: "Sigh. I've not been sacked.

"The nature of random scheduling means sometimes we don't have a show air for a little while, and sometimes we're on 2 or 3 times in a week."

His comment came after fans worried The Menace had been ditched, noting he was not on the show "yet again".

One tweeted: "Has Darragh just not recorded many post-lockdown episodes? This is ridiculous."

While another asked: "Have they sacked The Menace?"

After more than 11 years on ITV, The Chase welcomed Darragh to the show in November.

The Irish quizmaster, 47, joined fellow Chasers Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha and Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan.

Darragh was previously a contestant himself where he impressed with his general knowledge.

Outside of being excellent at quizzes, he is a postdoctoral researcher at Oxford University - specialising in the study of the brains of insects.

His first appearance on the show broke records with a whopping 4.9million people tuning at tea time to watch his debut.
