“A fantastic Beat the Chasers and Chase contestant, our thoughts are with Mike’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

They added: “Bradley, the Chasers and production loved meeting and spending time with Mike and making him part of the Beat The Chasers & The Chase family.”

Following ITV's announcement, Darragh Ennis said: "Such a sad loss. A really fun and entertaining contestant.”

Whilst on the show, Mr Johnson said he hoped to win the prize money so he could visit his mother in the Caribbean.

He told Bradley: "I haven’t seen my mother in Trinidad and I’ve got myself a beautiful five-year-old daughter and it’s her birthday tomorrow.

"So I’d like to take my wife and her over to visit, and maybe a little toy’s house as well."

Mr Johnson had chosen to play for £10,000 against three chasers - Anne Hegerty, Mark Labbett and Darragh, but he lost out with 13 seconds to go on their clock.
