The Chase's Darragh Ennis hits back as contestant calls out 'insulting' offer

A contestant on The Chase hit out at a decision made by Chaser Darragh Ennis during Wednesday's episode, calling it an "insult".

But disagreeing with the player, Darragh responded to the complaint and hit back at what he was saying.

Darragh had given the contestant, Alan, three money offers as usual as they prepared to go head-to-head.

These offers always consist of a low offer, a middle offer which is the money earned by the contestant in the cash builder round, and finally a high offer.

This time around, Darragh offered £500 as the low offer and a high offer of £30,000, while Alan had banked £5,000.

The Chase quizzer Darragh Ennis responded to a comment from a player on the ITV show (ITV)

With him being the first of four contestants, there was no inkling as to what would be laid out on the table.

But as the amounts were revealed, Alan was not impressed and did not hide the fact he believed it was "an insult".

He told Darragh: "Well the £500, that’s a bit of an insult I think, so that's off the table for me."

Darragh initially shrugged off his comments, before quickly hitting back at the idea the offer was "an insult" of any kind.

He said to Alan: "Don't know what you're expecting for seat one. But fair enough."

Alan did decide to go with the middle offer of £5,000 and managed to make his way back to the team.

Unfortunately when it came to the final chase, Alan and his team were unable to beat Darragh to the prize money.

Viewers were quick to realise that Darragh was unbeatable, with him yet to be beaten by any team in the current series it seems.

Taking to Twitter, many praised the quizzing champ and former contestant as others questioned whether anyone could stop him in his tracks.

The Chase airs weeknights at 5pm on ITV.
