The Chase's Bradley Walsh in disbelief at Liverpool contestant's answer

A Liverpool contestant had host Bradley Walsh in hysterics after an answer on today's show.

Kieran from Liverpool was one of four quizzers on the latest edition of the popular game show to see if they could win a cash prize.

The 29-year-old business consultant was joined by Kathryn, Lynne and Dan - who were testing their wits against The Governess Anne Hegerty.

Kieran revealed he had grown up in Preston before moving to the region - and hoped to spend any potential winnings on visiting Europe's most prestigious football stadiums.

Viewers of the show were originally fearful Kieran was going to take the minus offer after he advised the first contestant to take the low amount.

However, he defied expectations and went with the £4,000 he built up in cash-builder. Kieran successfully defeated Anne Hegerty in the head-to-head and was joined in the Final Chase by Lynne and Dan to compete for an overall £15,000.

The team built up an impressive 19 steps in the final round, but an answer given by Kieran had Bradley Walsh howling with laughter.

The host asked: "Betty's Hotpot is served in what fictional TV pub?"

Kieran quickly buzzed in to answer "Wetherspoons" - confusing the pub chain with Coronation Street's Rover's Return.

The mix up left Bradley Walsh reeling - as he was clapping with laughter.

Anne Hegerty defended Kieran by saying: "Everyone is entitled to a brain fart every now and then."

And fans took to Twitter in hysterics at the exchange.

One user said: "Man just said Wetherspoons was the pub in Corrie."

Another added: "I howled when Kieran said Wetherspoons instead of Rovers Return"

A third commented: "Which Pub Serves Bettys Hot-Pot? Contestant: Wetherspoons. Love the Chase lol"

A fourth posted: "Wetherspoons??? Oh dear god!"

Anne Hegerty put in a hugely impressive performance to catch the team with 18 seconds remaining - meaning they left empty-handed.

Bradley Walsh amended his usual sign off from the show with the joke: "Do you know the difference between The Rovers Return and Wetherspoons?"

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITVHub.
