The Chase's Anne Hegerty makes controversial Charlie Kirk comments

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has made controversial comments about Charlie Kirk.

Last week, the ally of President Donald Trump and co-founder of the conservative student group Turning Point USA was killed by a single rifle shot during the outdoor event attended by 3,000 people.

Taking to X, the 67-year-old wrote: “I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before Wednesday night.

“Had we met, my end of the conversation would have been 'You just said WHAT?' and 'Scuse me, those are my FRIENDS you're talking about.'"

She added: "I join Bernie Sanders in deploring his murder."

While thousands have paid tribute to Kirk, and there have been vigils in London, he was a polarising figure.

Some users took issue with Anne’s comments, with one writing: “You've never heard of him yet you make stupid assumptions. There's nothing he says that is controversial if you actually take time to listen."

She replied: “You know, Americans, this kind of hair-trigger angriness and sensitivity and telling people to stop talking is exactly why you get people doing this sort of thing in the first place. Why not try taking the temperature down a bit?”

"Anne, look at his debates before making assumptions - P.S. your head is big,” another added, to which she responded: "I know, it always has been. In the jungle, I had the second largest hat size."

Last month, Anne opened up about her love life, revealing she’s perfectly content without a partner or even a pet.

Speaking in a candid new interview with New magazine, Hegerty said: “No, I really don’t [want a relationship]. I used to, but I realised I was wanting to want it, rather than genuinely wanting a romantic relationship.”

She added: “I don’t even want pets. I’ve got pot plants and I mind when they die, but no – I’m very happy in my own company. I’m just fine.”

Despite assumptions that a life in the spotlight might come with social demands, Hegerty shared that she often prefers solitude, even at high-profile events.

“Even at showbiz events, I need to take time out if it’s very noisy. I need to chill for a bit, alone,” she explained.
