The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh quits major TV role after 'relentless' schedule

ITV's The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh has quit one of his major TV roles after enduring a gruelling filming schedule.

The presenter is currently hosting the popular game show The Chase and starring in ITV's Breaking Dad, as well as working on a new BBC series with Holly Willoughby.

Now, Bradley is set to leave his role on the BBC's Doctor Who after two years on the show.

Policewoman Yaz, played by Mandip Gill, 32, will remain and Jodie Whittaker, 37, is confirmed for a third season.

A source told The Mirror : “Two years is a long time in the world of Doctor Who. Yaz will be back but Christmas will be the last outing for Ryan and Graham.”

Bradley has previously admitted that he finds the filming schedule gruelling ahead of the latest series, saying: “We have great fun doing it. But you must sleep and look after yourself, because if you don’t, you will come unstuck.

"This is 10 months of ramming speed. That’s what it is. I’m in my 60th year. It’s tough. It’s hard. It’s relentless. It really is. This ain't an easy gig.”

The presenter has already filmed the one-off special for Christmas 2020 (BBC)

The festive special, called Revolution Of The Daleks, has already been filmed and will air around Christmas and New Year.

The one-off will see the Doctor once again go up against "one of the Doctor's biggest and most feared enemies".

Doctor Who's showrunner Chris Chibnall is already writing the 13th series of Doctor Who, which is expected to air in autumn 2021.

Last week, BBC drama chief Piers Wenger defended the show after ratings fell to 5.5 million from 8 million for the previous series in 2018.

He said it remained popular with younger viewers, adding: “It will always be an important show for us and we’re a very long way from wanting to rest it.”

The BBC has declined to comment on Bradley Walsh's exit.
