The Chase: Irish Chaser Darragh Ennis fires back at fans who accused him of losing on purpose

The Irish star of ITV hit show The Chase has fired back at fans who accused him of losing a game on purpose.

Darragh Ennis, nicknamed The Menace on the popular daytime quiz show, was not happy after receiving some messages accusing him of throwing the 'Final Chase' portion of the show.

On Wednesday's episode, contestants Paul, Lynsey and Sarah had made it through their respective head-to-heads, and set the Dubliner a target of 16 to be caught.

After starting out on a good run, Darragh slipped up on a question or two, with the team getting the answer correct to push him one step further back.

In the end he left himself too much to do, and the team took home £11,000.

It was only Darragh's second defeat since joining the show at the end of 2020.

However, many angry messages on social media accused him of stalling his answers or getting them wrong deliberately to let the team win.

And this riled the Oxford professor, who fired back at them on Twitter.

He wrote: "For those of you accusing me of losing that game on purpose on #TheChase today a few things: 1. That would be fraud 2. You are committing libel 3. You are doing a disservice to a good team who smashed in the pushbacks 4. I will block people in future."

Darragh's fellow Chase stars rowed in behind him with support, with Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha writing: "Remember that thing that human beings have good days and bad days because they are human beings? Well Chasers are human beings. If you tweet lies about us throwing it, maybe think of having a good day some time."
