The Chase host Bradley Walsh steps in to defend player from furious teammates

The Chase host Bradley Walsh stepped in to defend a player on Tuesday's show after she took the minus offer, but then performed so well she needn't have and she could have won her team more money.

Contestants who take the minus offer are usually torn to shreds by the show's Twitter audience, but Bradley and Chaser Shaun Wallace pointed out it was the wisest thing to do.

Faced with an offer of £4,000, £-3,000, or £30,000, Marcia asked her teammates Geoff, Kat and Daniel what they thought she should take.

"The minus offer is an insult, don't let him intimidate you, take the £4,000 and come back," said Geoff.

"Yeah, I wouldn't go for the minus, I think you could go for the 30 but otherwise go to the 4," said Kat.

"I wouldn't take the minus offer, no point undoing all of Kat's good work," agreed Daniel.

Turning back around to face Bradley, Marcia said: "Bradley, they've done a lot of hard work, 30 is tempting, four, I think I just got there, so I am sorry but I am going to take the minus to try to get back there to help those guys."

Her teammates grimaced with annoyance as Bradley remarked: "There was a sharp intake of breathe from over there but I've got to say, that's a wise decision."

Shaun agreed: "I think you've made a wise move there."

"Absolutely, 100%, there will need you in the final, all day long," added Bradley.

Marcia then got through with £-3,000, and Bradley said: "Whatever you do, don't turn around now."

"I know, I know, I can feel their eyes on me," said a nervous-looking Marcia.

Shaun remarked: "I still think you made the right decision actually, because you getting back could be the difference between winning and not winning."

"Keep your head down," joked Bradley, as Marcia headed back to her teammates - but they all shook her hand.

* The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
