The Chase fans stunned by "brainless" contestants

The Chase fans were stunned tonight, as the contestants struggled to get past chaser Paul Sinha.

The team got off to a good start, with nursery nurse Jan, 54, bringing back £5,000 to the team.

But then it all went downhill, with the next contestant crashing out.

He was followed by former dancer and air hostess Nicola - who tried for the £35,000, despite getting only £1,000 in her cash builder.

Nicola said: "I'll go for the £35k, I'm only here once, I'm only here to have fun."

But it wasn't to be as she was caught after two questions.

Next up was fire fighter Billy, who again only scored £1,000 in his cash builder.

Billy was given the option of minus £1k, but said he wouldn't be able to show his face in work if he took that, so he stuck with the £1,000.

And despite the odds he got back to his team - leaving him and Jan fighting a gainst The Chaser for £6,000.

However fans were not happy with the team's performance - saying they were some of the worst ever.

One said: "Poor Jan can't believe how useless her team are. Looks like she's given up."

Another said: "Bit of a brainless team today."

A third said: "Not the brightest bunch today."

And a fourth said: "Worse than dim."

Billy and Jan got 14 in the final Chase, but they were caught by The Sinnerman in just over a minute and went home with nothing.

*The Chase continues at 5pm on ITV tomorrow
