The Chase fans left 'raging' as contestant takes huge minus offer and slashes £40k prize

Viewers tuning into The Chase on Friday were left pretty frustrated after one contestant managed to slash the prize pot containing £40,000.

The four players taking part in the latest edition of the gameshow were Mel, Natalie, Leon and Jon.

However, things started off poorly as Mel and Natalie were knocked off the show by Chaser Shaun Wallace - leaving Leon and Jon to try and win as much money as possible.

After a pretty epic head-to-head, Leon pulled it out of the bag and secured a huge £40,000 for the duo.

Jon was keen to add to the pot and certainly started off strongly with a £5,000 cash builder.

But fans at home were very disappointed when Jon opted for the lower offer of -£10,000; despite being encouraged by Leon.

"Jon, take the minus 10 and come home, play it tactical," Leon told him.

"I’ve got to say Leon, I haven’t seen someone offer advice like that for a long, long while. Brilliant," host Bradley Walsh told him.

Leon felt it was better to have two heads in the last round, than just one, but viewers did not agree.

Fellow contestant Leon had encouraged Jon to accept the offer and fans of the show were raging (ITV)

One person tweeted: "Why in the world would you go for the minus TEN THOUSAND offer."

Another fan of the show posted: "MINUS TEN THOUSAND?! Get off the show, mate."

A third added: "Minus 10 grand!! raging lol," while a fourth person penned: "That bloke who took minus £10,000 is a disgrace."

Another viewer raged: "MINUS TEN GRAND HOPE HE GETS CAUGHT."

Chaser Shaun Wallace won the final round and ensured the contestants left with nothing (ITV)

While Jon made it through to the final, he and Leon didn't do enough to beat Shaun and unfortunately left the game show empty-handed.

"Ahhhhhhh caught with 22 seconds remaining," Bradley told them. "Hope you’ve had a good day."

Shaun added: "You played really, really well, I’m telling you but at the end of the day…"

"Just another day in the office," Jon cheekily replied.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
