The Chase fans in disbelief as player makes mortifying food blunder on first question

The Chase fans were left baffled on Monday's instalment of the ITV quiz show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, as a nervous player made a huge blunder in his first question.

IT engineer Geoff, 62, from Nottinghamshire, was up first out of his team, which also included Ieuan, Pauline and Catherine.

The first question read out to him by Bradley was: "What dairy product can go before burger, cake and straw?"

Geoff replied instantly: "Beef", and he grimaced when Bradley replied that the answer was actually "cheese".

Viewers pointed out Geoff's rather obvious blunder, as one tweeted: "That dairy product. Beef #TheChase ".

"Beef? How dairy #TheChase," joked another.

A third wondered: "Beef is a dairy product?"

A fourth remarked: " #TheChase Bradley "What dairy product can go before burger, cake and straw?" Geoff "Beef" Bradley "Cheese"".

Bradley revealed the correct answer was "cheese" (ITV)

Later on in the show, Mark 'The Beast' Labbett addressed the show's lively Twitter audience as he discussed the lower offer.

Mark noted that the show's daily viewers who are very active on Twitter, tend to hurl abuse at contestants who take the lower offer.

But, he noted, sometimes it's the wisest way to play the game.

Mark Labbett addressed Twitter trolls’ biggest pet peeve (ITV)

Mark offered player Ieuan, who was playing alongside Pauline, Catherine, and Geoff, £4,000, or a low offer of £-2,000, and a higher offer of £46,000.

Ieuan took the low offer, but was caught on his final question, which was: "In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, the Pharaoh is usually portrayed in the style of which singer?"

The answer options were A) Elvis Presley, B) Freddie Mercury, or C) Sid Vicious, and Ieuan looked uncertain, but guessed B.

He was wrong, and Mark had correctly guessed A, Elvis, and boasted: "No, I didn't know it, but Elvis is the King baby, who else could it be!?"

He added: "There are people at home who give people a ton of grief for taking negative offers, but if Ieuan had taken the negative offer he'd be home now and you'd be looking at a full house."

* The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
