The Chase fans gutted as 'annoying' player beats Shaun Wallace

The Chase fans were left gutted today as Shaun Wallace failed to catch an "annoying" contestant.

Politics student Jerome, 21, chatted to host Bradley Walsh before he went up against The Dark Destroyer, Shaun Wallace, who was tonight's Chaser.

Jerome said he was into "self improvement" and aimed to be in the best physical, mental and spiritual shape he could be.

If he won some cash Jerome said he wanted to go to Cuba on holiday, as it had always fascinated him.

Jerome managed to get £5,000 in the cash builder and decided to play for that as he went up against Shaun.

But as he played the game Jerome came across as overly confident, with viewers at home struggling to warm to him.

It came down to one question and Jerome got it wrong, there was a tense wait to see if Shaun had also got it wrong over the commercial break.

When they came back it was revealed that Shaun had also got it wrong and Jerome celebrated by throwing his hands in the air and turning towards his team.

He eventually managed to get back to his team with the cash, jumping up and down as he got through and saying: "I'm about to have a heart attack."

But viewers were not happy that Jerome had managed to beat the Chaser.

Andy Mac said: "Well, isn’t Jerome annoying!?"

@peekylad said: "He’s so annoying even the other contestants want to be caught in the final chase so he leaves empty handed."

Michael said: "Without doubt the most annoying contestant I have ever seen in my life."

And Steve Lowe said: "Jerome, I know you got through, but shut up. Please."

However Chaser Shaun Wallace said that he liked Jerome and said he had been "wildly entertaining."

When it came to the final chase Jerome answered 13 questions correctly setting a target of 20 for Shaun to beat.

And it proved too much for The Chaser with the team taking home £14,000.

Jerome managed to bring some viewers round, but many were still annoyed he took home the cash.

*The Chase continues at 5pm on ITV tomorrow
