The Chase fans furiously 'turn over to Pointless' after player takes 'large' minus offer

Fans of The Chase were left furious after a 'tactical' minus offer which cost his team £4,000.

Decorator Paul was the final player to take on chaser Mark Labbett in the most recent episode of The Chase.

An impressive game by all the contestants had earned £20,000 between them.

However, Paul was about to drop a bombshell which would drive fans crazy.

After banking £4,000, the builder teased the Letchworth resident with a high offer of £54,000 or a low offer of minus £4,000.

After consulting with his teammates, some of who suggested he should take the minus offer, Paul turned to host Bradley Walsh and 'The Beast'.

He said: "Let's go tactical, let's go minus £4,000, we get four back, we get four answers each, that's 20 on the board."

In response to Paul's choice, Mark responded: "There will be a lot of people at home now screaming abuse down the television set.

"They're wrong, you're right. It's absolutely the right decision to do."

Fans on Twitter disagreed, with some quickly switching and backing the Chaser to beat him:

"-4K?!! Get him, Mark!", Tweeted one, with another adding: "Tactical my a***"

"They deserve to go home penniless, the lot of them!", Tweeted another.

"Minus alert. Turning over to Pointless.", said a further fan.

Paul went on to return to his teammates comfortably, throwing away the chance to increase the total, leaving them with £16,000 for the final chase.

Fortunately for the team, it was their lucky day as The Beast was off the pace.

After the team correctly answered 17 questions and executed a number of push-backs, Mark Labbett was unable to catch them, with each contestant going home with £4,000 each.

In a friendly swipe at the end, The Beast claimed the team were too cautious: "You could have taken £107,000!", before clapping them as the titles rolled.

The Chase returns at 5pm every weekday afternoon on ITV.
