The Chase contestants scoop £80,000 after Chaser fails on easy Corrie question

Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha's ego is likely feeling a little bruised after losing £80,000 on The Chase.

Two contestants managed to win a share of one of the top 10 payouts in the show’s history after the Chaser failed to answer nine questions, leading to pushback opportunities for the team, who secured five.

The ITV quiz show’s host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants, with only Lyndsey and Jonny making it through to the final chase.

Lyndsey scooped 7,000 for the team while Jonny went for the higher amount and brought home an impressive 73,000.

They went to the final round only answering 16 questions, and despite getting off to a flying start, Paul stumbled in the last half of the questions.

One of the questions he passed on related to Coronation Street - namely who is the actress who plays character Tina McIntyre.

Even Lyndsey and Jonny got it wrong - they answered Michelle Jones and the correct answer is, of course, Michelle Keegan.

Despite this the contestants managed to capitalise on Paul’s pushbacks and secured five of them, leading to a fairly comfortable victory for the pair.

Johnny said of their win: “I can’t believe it. It’s just ridiculous.”

Bradley said: “It’s all about the pushbacks, well played.”

When they were told they’d won the money, Lyndsey and Jonny were visibly shocked before being graciously congratulated by the Sinnerman.

He said: “Outplayed. I didn’t play well there, but credit where credit is due. You played really, really well, and absolute congratulations. Life changing amounts of money.”

Lyndsey and Jonny went home with £40,000 each after splitting the money equally.

The Chase continues today at 5pm on ITV.
