The Chase contestants get emotional as they scoop jackpot against Shaun Wallace

The Chase contestants got emotional on Monday night’s episode when they secured the staggering jackpot win against Shaun Wallace in the final chase.

At the start of the week Francesca, Chris and Sarah took on The Dark Destroyer in a bid to win a huge cash sum - and even they were shocked at the amount.

After contestant Chris was given the option of -£1,000, £4,000 or £45,000 in a head-to-head with Shaun, he opted to take a gamble and go high, giving his team's potential winning money a huge boost.

After a tense final round of quick-fire questions, the trio were close to tears as they secured a £66,000 win.

Host Bradley's final question to Shaun was: "Which chef co-presents Sunday Brunch with Tim Lovejoy?"

He replied saying he couldn't remember his name - which is Simon Rimmer - but when the game had finished and Shaun had failed to catch the team, he congratulated his opponents and singled out lawyer Francesca’s surprise performance.

Francesca said she planned to spend her £22,000 slice on a house deposit and a takeaway dinner, while Chris said he would use it as seed money for a new scooter business.

The Chase viewers were equally delighted by the team’s win and took to Twitter to congratulate the contestants.

One fan wrote: “They just won 22k each on #TheChase and you could tell it's life changing for all of them. Was so lovely to see.”

Another tweeted: “Great game tonight thoroughly enjoyed it, got to go high that's the name of the game #thechase. Paid off in the end”

A third wrote: “What a win!!! What a team! Was getting close in the end! At one point, I thought the Chaser got them! Nail biting stuff #TheChase”

This comes after The Chase 's Mark Labbett stormed off set when he lost out to a team who managed to take home a huge jackpot of £21,000.

After he congratulated the contestants for their win, he left the studio and punched the wall on the way out.

Host Bradley Walsh immediately apologised for Mark's behaviour, telling viewers that isn't how people should deal with defeat.

When the game had finished Mark said: “Well played guys, you deserve it – I’m off.”

Looking shocked, Bradley said: “I apologise to all the kids watching. That’s not how you should take defeat. You should take it magnanimously and humbly.”

Despite being polite to the contestants before leaving his chaser chair, Mark found it necessary to apologise to his fans through his social media following the programme.

Mark took to Twitter to issue an apology where he said his mental health at the time of recording wasn't very good.

He wrote: “Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight. My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase.”
