The Chase contestant makes history as he wins record-breaking £75,000 prize

The Chase aired a record-breaking moment on the ITV series on Tuesday night, as one contestant made history.

Eden, aged just 20, was speechless as he beat Chaser Darragh Ennis and brought an end to his six-month winning streak.

The contestant was the last of the four quizzers still standing, and the only one to make it through to the final chase.

He started off doing okay with £3,000 won in his cash builder - before he opted to go for the highest offer when it came to taking on Darragh.

The highest on offer was £75,000 and viewers were stunned when Eden managed to get back home without being caught, therefore securing all the money to play for in the final round.

It was just him left to answer the questions read out by host Bradley Walsh, in a new episode in the latest series that was filmed before the coronavirus pandemic.

Having previously been asked what he would do with any prize money, Eden had said: "I suppose a car would be nice.. But nothing snazzy. Just anything with four wheels."

But he soon faced the fact he could be £75,000 richer after answering a huge 18 questions correctly by himself, giving him a good head start.

Darragh then got several questions wrong, giving Eden the pushbacks he needed to secure a massive win.

As the last question was read out and Darragh failed to catch up with Eden, it became clear the £75,000 was his - and he'd just become the show's biggest ever solo winner in terms of the cash prize.

Not only that, but host Bradley revealed it was the single highest win in daytime television history.

Bradley was astonished, as he raced to congratulate a shocked Eden who could not believe his win, and the fact he had beaten Darragh.

The previous biggest ever solo win on the show was a contestant named Judith who won £70,000 back in 2019.

As Bradley realised what had happened, he told Eden: "I can't believe it! This is incredible, he's 20 years old and just won £75,000.

"It's the single highest win in daytime history."

Quizzer Darragh also had his say, telling the contestant: "You did very well, it was all about the pushbacks in the end."

The Chase airs weeknights at 5pm on ITV.
