The Chase contestant George tipped to be 'new Chaser' after £40,000 head-to-head win

Chase viewers and host were blown away by a 'genius' contestant's performance on Tuesday's show, with fans already lining him up to be the new Chaser.

George from Texas, had quizzing form prior to his appearance on the ITV quiz show, having been on University Challenge and it favoured him as he stormed to a rather astonishing win.

George had to conquer the formidable quiz brain of Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha to triumph in the hjead-to-head round on Tuesday and Paul, who is absent from the new series of Beat The Chasers, was well aware of his credentials, saying: "He's the star of the British student quiz team, he's very very good indeed but there are gaps there."

And Liverpool Echo report that George lived up to his billing, after deciding to go for the high offer of £40,000 after being tempted by Paul, despite saying his girlfriend would prefer him to take the £6,000.

George worked through the questions with ease and got a NASA question right after admitting his parents worked for the space organisation.

He took the £40,000 back to his team, with Paul admitting: "That was quality."

Host Bradley was also impressed as were viewers at home, with one remarking: "George on the Chase is a genius," and a second reacting: "absolute stellar performance by george on the chase"

And predicting a future for George on the show, another tweeted: "George on #TheChase absolutely bossing it. Guy's gotta be a contender for the next Chaser surely. Loving how he casually mentions his parents work for NASA."

Paul's appearance on Tuesday's episode of The Chase came after co-star Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan explained why he was absent from the new run of spin-off Beat The Chasers.

Reacting to viewers' concerns, she posted: "For those asking: Paul was unwell at the time we recorded this series, so was unable to join us in studio.

"If we get a fourth series, maybe you'll see the six of us quizzing together at last!"
