The Chase contestant dies just a week after she appeared on TV

The husband of a contestant on ITV quiz show The Chase has announced that his wife has died following her appearance on the show.

Debbie appeared in an episode that was filmed prior to the coronavirus lockdown and it was repeated last week, after which her husband shared the news in a group. The Chase contestant had survived a battle with cancer 14 years before the disease tragically returned for a second time.

Her husband wrote: "Debbie, who was on the Chase on Wednesday and who Sean flirted with, sadly lost her 17-year battle with cancer last week. She was my beautiful wife and it was tough to see but at the same time lovely to see her how she was."

He continued: "It was filmed about three years ago. She was one of the last to be filmed before lockdown. She had breast cancer 14 years before this that had been away for a number of years, but about a year after she filmed this it came back in her bones and then in her brain."

Debbie's episode saw the budding quizzer go up against Chaser Shaun Wallace, also known as The Dark Destroyer, with the help of teammates Helen Inaam and George. As usual, Bradley Walsh was on hand to guide the contestants through the show.

After her cash builder, which saw Debbie accumulate £5,000 for her head-to-head round, The Dark Destroyer cheekily flirted with the ITV quiz show contestant. on the show, Debbie said: "See I wasn't being flirty, was I?" to Walsh after speaking to The Dark Destroyer. The Chaser quickly rushed to Debbie's defence and denied she was "flirting" with him.

Debbie was subsequently caught by The Chaser and sadly didn't make it through to the final with her fellow contestants George and Helen.
