The Chase contestant baffles fans by vowing to use prize money to help son become monk

The Chase has seen contestants share many weird and wonderful uses for their prize money over the years but yesterday's show saw possibly the most unique plan for the cash reward for beating the chaser.

Paula from Glastonbury baffled viewers of the Bank Holiday Monday edition of the ITV show when she revealed just what she'd spend her winnings on if she made it all the way to the end.

"Well my son Jamie wants to become a Buddhist monk," the contestant told host Bradley Walsh when asked her plans should she take home the prize.

"So we're going to go to Sri Lanka for a month at the end of the year, go to Colombo and Kandy, my other son Andrew would be invited as well."

The unusual response left host Bradley bemused and the 60-year-old presenter wasn't the only one taken by surprise with the contestant's revelation.

Many viewers took to social media to share their amusement at Paula's plans for her potential windfall.

"If Paula wins I'll become a monk" one fan of the show tweeted while others wanted to know more about the contestant, saying: "bless “I’ve been sacked loads of times...” f*ck the quiz tell us more. #TheChase."

Paula's dreams almost became a reality as the made it all the way to the Final Chase with £1,000 in her prize pot.

However, it sadly wasn't meant to be as the cheesecake maker was beaten by Chaser Paul Sinha, AKA The Sinnerman.

"Good luck with your trip to Columbo - let your son be a Buddhist priest! It's important to let your sons live their dreams."

Paula isn't the first contestant to shock viewers with elaborate plans for the prize money.

In each episode of The Chase, host Bradley Walsh will quiz the contestants about what they will splash out on if they go on to win the cash prize.

"I want to knock 10 years off my age" the show hopeful said - leaving Bradley visibly shocked.

Perhaps the most shocking answers to Bradley's enquires about potential spending sprees came earlier year.

On an episode of the hit ITV show, contestant Frankie revealed she would put any money she won towards her dream wedding.

She went on to explain she had already booked the venue and picked out her dream dress as she discussed her seemingly standard answer.

However, viewers and Bradley were left stunned when she went on to drop the bombshell that her boyfriend Aidan is yet to pop the question.

Gobsmacked Bradley tried to help Frankie's plan come together as he looked directly to the camera and said: "Aidan, come on get moving on that."
