The Chase contestant almost loses out on cash because she kept shouting out the answers

A pensioner almost lost a share of a cash prize on The Chase because she failed to press her button when she had an answer to questions from host Bradley Walsh.

Shirley, a retired casting director from London, faced 'The Beast' Mark Labbett and won £5,000 in the cash builder.

But Shirley's time on the show wasn't a smooth ride because she kept shouting out her responses, CornwallLive report.

When host Bradley asked: "A kilderkin is a measurement of what? A: Time, B: Speed or C: Capacity."

Rather than pressing her button, Shirley responded out loud: "Capacity."

Bradley quickly demanded: "Press your button."

The Beast added: "I don't want to win that way."

Bradley told her: "Shirley, you must press your buttons."

One viewer said on Twitter: "My stress level is through the roof watching Shirley #TheChase."

Another wrote: "Press the button Shirley, never seen the show before thought I had to shout the answer out. #TheChase."

A third posted: "Has she watched the show bless her?? #TheChase."

A later viewer commented: "‘Shirley, you have to press your buttons!’... This isn’t going to end well! #TheChase."

Another added: "Hahahaha bird just said her answer out loud on the Chase instead of pressing her button, what a weapon #TheChase."

Others said: "Press the bloody button Shirley #TheChase," and "Hahaha the poor thing saying the answer out loud. Do you not watch the show love?? Bless her #TheChase."

But Shirley and Ian had the last laugh, walking away with a share of £11,000.

Contestant Ian claimed "pensioner power" was the reason for their success.
