The Chase contestant, 20, floors fans as he wins biggest solo amount in show's history

A 20 year-old contestant has floored viewers of The Chase after he won the highest solo amount in the show's history.

Eden, a trainee underwriter from Hertfordshire, took home a record-breaking £75,000 after he defeated Darragh Ennis in the nail-biting Final Chase.

Tuesday's episode was the second new edition of the season - and The Menace had been in formidable form as he swiftly caught Eden's teammates Gemma, Elizabeth and Sydney.

But the 20-year-old was unfazed and immediately opted to take the higher offer of £75,000 after he had built up £3,000 in the cash-builder.

Eden had earlier told Bradley Walsh his humble plans to buy a second-hand car if he managed to win a cash prize.

He said: "I suppose a car would be nice.. But nothing snazzy. Just anything with four wheels."

Eden navigated his way back to the Final Chase when he built up an impressive 18 steps - although he did get a Liverpool-based question wrong after he incorrectly said the Kingsway tunnel connected Wallasey to Leeds.

Eden executed four successful pushbacks in the last round and The Menace could only build up 15 steps meaning Eden won £75,000.

Bradley Walsh was left speechless and confirmed the prize was the single highest win in daytime television history.

The previous biggest ever solo win on The Chase was when 54-year-old Judith defeated Jenny Ryan to win £70,000.

And fans took to Twitter floored by Eden's unbelievable performance.

One user said: "BEST. CHASE. EVER. Unbelievable effort by Eden. Total respect and well played."

Another added: "My 84 year old Dad just said it is the best episode of #TheChase he has seen. Congratulations Eden."

A third commented: "Young Eden was an absolute star."

A fourth tweeted: "Well done Eden, stunning performance for anybody let alone someone so young. Congratulations."

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITVHub.
