The Chase branded 'car crash' as Anne Hegerty decimates team during 'painful' episode

The Chase was branded a 'car crash' by fans last night as Anne Hegerty decimated the entire team of contestants.

Host Bradley Walsh highlighted The Governess' formidably form as she eliminated all four players before the Final Chase.

During the hit ITV quiz show's entire history, Anne has been one of the top performing Chasers, the Liverpool Echo reports.

As shown in the video above, last night's repeat episode demonstrated just why Anne has earned that exemplary title.

Anne was on top form and made short work of all four contestants (ITV)

Players Gregor and Jo both earned an impressive £7,000 in their cash builder rounds at the beginning of the show before being eliminated by Anne in the head to head.

Third player Lisa earned £4,000 in her cash builder but didn't make it back to the Final Chase.

This left fourth and final player Richard, a vicar from Milton Keynes.

Despite earning £4,000 in his cash builder Richard said he wanted to "go out with a bang" so opted to go for Anne's high offer of £50,000.

However, his bravery didn't pay off as he too was defeated by The Governess.

This meant that the team had to choose one player to return for the Final Chase in a last bid to take home some cash.

But with 45 seconds on the clock, Anne caught contestant Jo and the team left with nothing. Brutal.

Fans took to  Twitter  to share their thoughts.

One fan said: "Blimey its a car crash on  #TheChase  tonight! No players through, zip in the prize pot FFS."

Another said: "A painful 30 minutes awaits us."

A third said: "Great, now two out is it? This episode's gonna be rubbish."

The Chase airs on ITV weekdays at 5pm
