The Chase: Bradley Walsh's 'seriously bad' medical condition that causes his face to change

The Chase's Bradley Walsh recently opened up about his health battle that causes his eyes to look swollen and red.

The 61-year-old told This Morning he suffers from blepharitis, inflammation along the edges of the eyelids.

Because of the condition, Bradley said his face can look puffy - something which his fans occasionally point out.

Blepharitis causes red, swollen and itchy eyelids. It can normally be treated by washing your eyelids every day.

The condition is not usually serious but can lead to other problems, such as dry eyes, cysts and conjunctivitis, especially if it's not treated.

Symptoms of blepharitis include sore eyelids, itchy eyes, a gritty feeling in the eyes, flakes or crusts around the roots of the eyelashes, red eyes or eyelids and eyelids sticking together in the morning when you wake up.

Blepharitis can be caused by a type of bacteria that lives on the skin or a skin condition, such as atopic dermatitis.

But it cannot be spread to other people.

The condition can be treated with antibiotic creams or drops.

But it is recommended sufferers keep their eyelids clean using eye pads and wipe eyedrops.

Speaking on This Morning about the condition, Bradley told This Morning: “People don’t realise I have seriously bad blepharitis.

“I have to take one pill a day for it or I really struggle. I am going to need my eyes operated on at some point to sort it out.

“So many times, people have commented on how I look. But they don’t realise. If I take medication though, I’m fine.”
