The Charlie Allen stats that earned praise in EFL Trophy defeat

It isn't the result he would have wanted, but rising Northern Ireland football star Charlie Allen can be proud of his performance.

Allen captained Leeds United's Under 21s in their EFL Trophy defeat to Accrington Stanley.

League One side Stanley eased to a comfortable 7-0 win against a very young Leeds side on Tuesday night.

Former Linfield forward Allen is only 16 but showed maturity beyond his years to impress fans who got a glimpse of the action.

According to the stats from Tuesday night's game, Allen had 54 touches and made 25 accurate passes.

He made one key pass and won five ground duels, three interceptions and made two out of two successful dribbles.

Allen joined Leeds in the summer after impressing for Linfield.

A product of the Blues' Academy, the versatile forward also featured for David Healy's first-team before earning his move to Marcelo Bielsa's newly-promoted club.

Leeds have high hopes for the talented teen, and the early signs look promising.

According to Focus On Leeds, the Northern Ireland youngster was the standout performer in Tuesday's EFL Trophy tie.

"A 7-0 defeat for a very young Under 21 side against Accrington Stanley. All the lads stuck in there and carried on trying to play," they tweeted.

"Summer signing Charlie Allen the pick of the bunch, showing some nice touches. He also captained the side at 16."

Reflecting on Allen's stats from the game, Focus On Leeds added: "Very good display given the opposition. Bright future."
