The Chargers were whistled for 4 different penalties on 1 preseason play

Ah, preseason NFL. It’s a time when wonderful stuff happens with players just trying to make it to the final roster, and also a time when we see sloppy football.

This is something I’ve honestly never seen before, maybe outside of an all-out football brawl that results in ejections, but this is a play from the Los Angeles Chargers first 2019 preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. It’s from a punt return that resulted in four — FOUR — yellow hankies.

There’s no video of the actual play I can find, but that’s not important. Here’s what is: The call from referee that breaks it all down:

Holding, declined. Holding, declined. Holding, also declined. And then unsportsmanlike conduct for blocking out of bounds, for 15 yards at the end of the kick.
