The changing face of Lister Gate from 1950 to the present day

The redevelopment of Nottingham''s southern gateway is well and truly underway and - if artist impressions are anything to go by - it will look unrecognisable when finished.

It's the latest in a historical string of changes to the 'other' end of the city, which back in the 1970s - before the Nottingham's second shopping hub, the Broadmarsh Centre, was built - looked like an entirely different place.

For starters cars were allowed down Lister Gate and there was even a roundabout.

Woolworths had a massive store, HMV was on the high street and there was a pub called the Sawyers Arms which closed in the 1980s.
