There will be some changes to recycling and household rubbish bin collections in Bury over the Christmas and New Year period.

Bins normally collected on Tuesday, December 22 will change to Monday, December 21, Wednesday, December 23 will change to Tuesday, December 22 and Thursday, December 24 will change to Wednesday, December 23.

Those with Friday collections will not have their bins picked up on Christmas Day, that will change to Thursday, December 24.

There will be no change to collections on Tuesday, December 29, Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31.

Friday, January 1 collections will change to Saturday , January 2.

Collections return to normal from Monday, January 4, 2021.

Bury Council have said that there will be no brown bin collections from December 21 to January 1 because garden waste is reduced at this time of year.

Most households will have enough space in their bin for extra food waste, winter temperatures help prevent food waste from breaking down and so extra effort can be put into emptying other bins which fill up more quickly at this time of year, according to the town hall.

Those who wish to dispose of real Christmas trees are asked to remove all decorations, lights and the wooden base, then chop it up so it fits inside the brown bin with the lid fully closed.

They can also be taken to a recycling centre.
