The change that allowed Liverpool to regain control against Salzburg as Jurgen Klopp explains target

Jurgen Klopp has explained the tactical change that helped Liverpool avert Champions League embarrassment.

The Reds earned their first win in Group E with a dramatic 4-3 triumph over RB Salzburg at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool let a three-goal lead slip in the second half before a switch to 4-2-3-1 following the introduction of James Milner for skipper Jordan Henderson allowed them to gain control with Mohamed Salah subsequently scoring the winner.

“We needed to control the game again,” said Klopp. “We changed system as well to give them a few more questions.

“One of the problems was the boys had to work really hard for it in the first half but it felt so easy.

"I don't know how often we had a midfielder in a completely free space, whether it was Gini or Hendo.

“The only little thing they changed was to a diamond. In the different areas they had more players.

“I was already shouting in the first half that we had to use our structure again. But that's easier said than done.

“There are a lot of things to learn and improve, but the target before the game was winning and we have done that.”
