The chances of Olympiacos making a move for Nottingham Forest ace Joao Carvalho explained

The chances of Olympiacos making a move for Nottingham Forest ace Joao Carvalho may depend on the future of another player.

The Portuguese youngster is reportedly still on the Greek giants’ list of summer targets, having first been linked with them back in April.

However, it is understood whether Olympiacos take their interest further and show their hand hangs on what happens with their attacking midfielder, Kostas Fortounis.

The Greece international has been a key figure for the club, having made more than 150 appearances since moving from Kaiserslautern in 2014.

Fortounis’ contract is due to expire next summer, and although he is in talks about extending that deal, SDNA claim West Ham United are keen on him.

It is said that if negotiations between Olympiacos, who, like the Reds, are owned by Evangelos Marinakis, and Fortounis collapse, they may look to cash in before he becomes a free agent.

And if that does prove to be the case, it is understood their focus may turn to Carvalho.

Reds boss Martin O’Neill previously dismissed speculation linking the 22-year-old with a summer move.

Back in April, he said: “I’ve definitely had no conversations with anyone concerning him at this minute.

“These are all things for the next few weeks.

“But he’s definitely a talent player.”

In his first season in English football, Carvalho made 41 appearances in the Garibaldi, scoring five goals.

One of his standout moments came towards the end of the campaign, when he put in a magnificent man of the match display in the 3-0 thumping of Middlesbrough.
