On Tuesday night the top two both dropped points with Leeds’ 1-1 draw at Preston North End and West Brom’s inability to get past Barnsley.
Sheffield Wednesday moved into third with a 1-0 win over struggling Stoke City.
Meanwhile QPR’s draw with Reading and Preston’s failure to hold onto the lead at home to Leeds did not affect their positions in the play-offs.
