The Champions League fact that proves Liverpool should be wary against Porto

Liverpool take on Porto in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final match on Wednesday night.

The Reds head into that fixture at the Estadio do Dragao with a 2-0 advantage after an excellent display in the home fixture that saw both Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino find the back of the net.

Jurgen Klopp and his side will know the Portuguese giants and their stadium well after beating them 5-0 there in the first leg of the round of 16 in the competition last season.

Why Liverpool have Champions League advantage over Man City, Man United, Barcelona and Juventus

That scoreline tells a story - and one of Liverpool domination - but the first half of that game was hard fought and Porto were not without their chances.

Of course, that is not to say the Reds should not expect to get the job done and book their place in the Champions League semi-finals when they travel to Portugal this term with a 2-0 advantage but it is a note which they will be aware of that tells them to be on their guard.

Another reason for Klopp's men to be wary when they face the 28-time Primeira Liga winners is that Porto are the only remaining side in the Champions League to have won 100% of their home games in the competition this season which includes a 3-1 scalp of Roma.

And not only that, the last time Porto failed to score in a home game across all competitions was against Liverpool last season in the Champions League.

Roberto Firmino continues to thrive as Jurgen Klopp's main man for Liverpool

They will, no doubt then, be backing themselves to score against the Reds and one of their main threats will come through Moussa Marega.

The striker was a real handful in the first-leg at Anfield and will look to impose himself on the upcoming match due to the face he has scored in all four of FC Porto’s home Champions League matches this season.

Sergio Conceicao's side will be looking for a fifth straight home win in Europe's premier competition - a feat the club have not achieved in more than 20 years.

What will be standing in their way though is a Liverpool side who have progressed from all nine of their previous two-legged European ties under manager Jurgen Klopp (four in the 2015-16 Europa League, one 2017-18 Champions League play-off and four Champions League knockout stage ties since the start of last season).

The Reds have also never lost a European match against FC Porto in seven previous encounters (W4 D3 L0), keeping three successive clean sheets against them.
