The Champions League changes for Celtic and Rangers and what they mean for both clubs

UEFA have confirmed Scotland will receive an extra Champions League spot this season.

Celtic and Rangers' recent exploits in Europe has resulted in Scotland rising up the co-efficient rankings.

And Scotland have now been handed five places across the Champions League, the Europa League and the newly created UEFA Europa Conference League, increasing from the current four.

The Premiership winners will now enter the Champions League at the third qualifying round, while the runners-up will begin their campaign in the second qualifying stage.

The winners of the Scottish Cup will now be granted a place in Europa League at the third qualfying round, unless they have already qualified for the Champions League, in which case, it filter downs to the team who finishes third position in the league.

The clubs who finish in the next two highest places will enter into the new UEFA Europa Conference League.

Rangers and Celtic are still pushing for an automatic group stage place in this season's Europa League, if they can finish inside the top 11 countries on the co-efficient list. They currently lie in 12th spot.
