The challenge Frank Lampard has set Tammy Abraham during Chelsea's clash with Liverpool

Frank Lampard has challenged Tammy Abraham to stand up to his toughest test this weekend when Chelsea take on Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The 21-year-old has had a superb start to the season with seven goals in his last three Premier League matches, however failed to net in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Abraham's seven goals have come against Norwich City, Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but this weekend he will face the huge task of getting past Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool.

The Reds have sealed five wins from their opening five league matches, conceding just four goals in the process.

Chelsea have had some big-game strikers in the past, no more so than Didier Drogba, and Lampard knows that is the next step for Abraham in his development.

"I think it is normal that the top strikers are judged on goals and then the next level, it is can you score goals against the big teams etc.," Lampard said.

"I understand that. A defender like Van Dijk, a defence like Liverpool, a team like Liverpool make it harder to create chances, so it’s about what can you do as an individual to create them and how clinical can you be after that?

"He has shown great signs this season, it will be another test on the way.

"It is not the be-all and end-all day, we will all make judgements after this. But for the top strikers, like Didier [Drogba], we all remember the amount of times he scored in finals and semi-finals and in important games. I think quite rightly players are judged on that stuff.

"The thing I love about Tammy is the way that he takes on challenges and his enthusiasm. He takes every day like it’s a challenge and a happy challenge, he comes in with a smile on his face and wants to score goals in training and be the best that he can be.

"If you have that attitude you have a chance, because we know that he has the talent."
