The Centre in Livingston is 'first mall in UK' to provide shoppers with reusable paper bag option

The Centre in Livingston has become "the first mall in the UK" to offer shoppers a reusable paper bag option.

People visiting the shopping centre can grab themselves one of the 20p biodegradable, compostable bags, which are tear and water resistant, from the customer service desk.

Those behind the initiative say it follows feedback from customers who wanted an alternative to the plastic shopping bags handed out at many shops.

Patrick Robbertze, director at The Centre, said: "We are really excited to be launching our reusable paper carrier bag to help reduce the amount of plastic in the environment, which is in response to customer demand.

"As plastic pollution continues to be high up on everyone's agenda we felt it was important to listen to our customers and offer them an alternative environmentally-friendly carrier bag.

"Introducing paper bags into the mall not only gives shoppers a choice and a solution if they visit without their own bags but also represents our shopping centre's environmental policies."
