The Celtics-Heat series is probably still over, but let’s root for absolute chaos

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning. Here’s Mike Sykes.

Well, the Boston Celtics are somehow still alive in these NBA playoffs. The C’s finally got in the win column after 4 games against the Miami Heat.

It feels weird to be saying that about the No. 2 overall seed in the Eastern Conference against what should be a bottom-feeder No. 8 seed in the Miami Heat, but that’s where we are. That’s how weird these NBA playoffs have been.

After all, if Boston played Game 3 the same way the team played Game 4, we’d probably be talking about a competitive series here at the very least. Instead, we spent the last two days absolutely clowning the Celtics and questioning whether Joe Mazzulla was ready for the moment as if he’s the one out there not getting any buckets.

The team has been in shambles for days. Game 4 was a pride game — the Celtics couldn’t go out like that. Not against an 8 seed. The series is probably still over, but hey, at least we got one competitive game out of it.

And look! It ain’t over until it’s over, right? What’d LeBron James say a few days ago before being unceremoniously swept into contemplating retirement? It’s the first to win four games, right? Right.

The Celtics have given themselves a shot and that’s all we can ask for at this point. They have a chance to make some pretty hilarious er, uh, incredible NBA history.

This isn’t going to. happen. But, y’all. Can you imagine what would happen if it did?

Being the first team to come back from down 3-0 would be quite an accomplishment. And quite the laugh, too. Against this No. 8 seed? Come on.

I’m sorry. But the Celtics winning four straight against the Heat after absolutely everyone has buried them and questioned whether the team should be broken up would be all-time internet NBA meme gold.

And who knows! The Celtics should win Game 5 at home, right? Then it’s back to Miami for another game and we’ll see! I don’t know about y’all. But me? I am rooting for absolute chaos. Why not? We’ve got an 8th seed in the Eastern Conference finals.

Either way, we’ve got more NBA basketball to watch. And I’m thankful because I don’t know if I could’ve made it until June 1 for the Finals.

Quick Hits: NFL Free Agency moves we’d love to see  … A completely ridiculous Jeopardy! error … and more.

— There are still plenty of good free agents left on the table in the NFL. Our Cory Woodruff has 10 moves we’d love to see.

— Losing Jeopardy! because of a spelling error seems silly. It happened, though. And it ended this 9 game streak. Our Charles Curtis has more.

Our Christian D’Andrea is tiering quarterbacks. Need I say more?

— There was a ninja squirrel at Yankee Stadium. Cory Woodruff is on it here.

Thanks all, folks! Have a great day.
