The Celtic transfer quirk as Michal Karbownik interest sees very familiar face enter the signing mix

Former Celtic star Virgil van Dijk didn't take long to show Scottish football that he was the real deal upon his arrival from Groningen back in 2013.

The Hoops have been lauded for their ability to tempt the Dutchman to Scotland as he jumpstarted a career that would lead to Liverpool and recognition as the world's best defender.

But if signing players was that easy then there would be no needs to pore over hours of footage and compile in-depth scouting reports.

And the truth is, the world of identifying talent is becoming smaller with clubs having access to reams of information about emerging stars at the click of a button.

But you wouldn't blame Celtic for becoming weary after reports in Italy emerged on Sunday that the Premiership champions could face a battle with Napoli to land Michal Karbownik from Legia Warsaw.

Mailsport exclusively revealed that the 19-year-old has been watched on two occasions by the Hoops before lockdown as keeps tabs on his development.

And Napoli's interest in full-backs who have a connection with the Hoops is longstanding.

The Serie A giants were keen on Timothy Castagne during the January transfer window as Brendan Rodgers made a push for the £8m-rated Atalanta star weeks before his departure to Leicester.

Napoli were keen on Kieran Tierney before the Scotland international plumped for a move to Arsenal after the Gunners finally landed their man in a £25m deal last summer.

Rino Gattuso's men have also been linked with Rangers left-back Borna Barisic before the connection with Karbownik.

And it appears Celtic and Napoli aren't the only clubs who remain keen as it's understood Dynamo Moscow and Real Betis are also keeping tabs on the Poland U19 star.
