The Celtic showboating that caused Rangers legend Walter Smith to 'crucify' Charlie Adam

Charlie Adam has revealed a famous clip of him showboating against Celtic led to him being slaughtered by Walter Smith after the game.

Footage from Rangers' 3-0 win over the Hoops in 2007 regularly circulates around social media because of the Ibrox side holding onto the ball for a prolonged period and frustrating their rivals.

The crowd can be heard loving it and Adam winds his opponents up further with a no look pass as he lays the ball off to Kevin Thomson.

But while he was thrilled with his performance and the win after the game, Rangers legend Smith wasn't slightly impressed with how he behaved during that bit of action.

Smith believed that no matter what, his players should have stayed showing full respect to Celtic, particularly when beating them so heavily.

Adam was appearing on the Open Goal podcast with Simon Ferry, Kevin Kyle and Paul Slane, and when asked about how Smith reacted to the pass, he said: "He hammered me. Came in and booted the tactics and crucified me.

"When you walk in there’s a big square, so I’m sat three away from Fergie (Barry Ferguson), we’d won the game, everyone is celebrating, beat Celtic and buzzing.

"He came in and went ‘you ya c***, you think you’re a player do you?’ And I was like ‘what?’

"He goes ‘these no look passes thinking you’re a player, we’re Rangers, we don’t take the p*** out of anyone’.

"He was angry, he kicked the board and destroyed me and I thought I was brilliant as well on the day. One minute I was so high and the next he came through and crucified me but it is what it is. It’s a learning curve."
